Musing; Protect Them

I'm a strong advocate of child protection advocacy. I love children and believe so much in them and their potentials. Whatever is sown in a child, he internalizes and multiplies it. Children are not good or bad, the people in their lives mould them, their environment shape them, their backgrounds and upbringing make them who they grow up to be. What are you contributing to the life of that child in your care?

Recently, news of girl-child rape by adult men has soared, like these men are in a competition. I read the story of a girl-child, below age one, that was raped by a forty (40) year old man. I felt like vomiting. What did that little child do to attract such brutality to herself? What exactly is going on in the heads of these terrible men?

Schools are on holidays now, about to resume. Quite a number of girls will resume back in school pregnant. Some won't because of the shame of defilement. Some boys will return to school molested. Boys are not spared either. Some of them, because of the abuse experience they had in the hands of trusted relatives or friends or strangers, will become sexual predators themselves.

Parents, adults generally, these children are meant to be protected by us all. Stop the abuse! Abuse is not only sexual. Some parents even abuse their kids without realising they are. So, what constitutes child abuse?

This was covered in previous posts here and here. Take time to read these posts. I'll highlight some forms of child abuse here.

* Sexual
* Emotional
* Neglect
* Corporal punishment
* Verbal
* Abandonment
* Using kids for street hawking

Refer to the child rights act. Make a commitment to protect every child you come across. You had better not be hurting a child around me, you won't live it down. Being a child should not hurt.
