Disinterested? Pleasantly End That Conversation.
If you've been in fashion or any of the seemingly 'superficial' industries for long, then pleasantly ending a conversation is more of an art than a trick. Because you don't want to be called a snob, hence the need for diplomacy and tact in your everyday conversations.
Because, honestly, you wouldn't want to be caught dead talking to some people or having some kinds of conversations. Let's call them petty chit chats or unproductive gossip which you really might not have time for. If you're just like me then you'll find these laid down artful ways of ending conversations life saving.
1. Keep your answers extremely brief
There's absolutely nothing that sends a "I don't have time for this" kind of vibe than a very brief and monosyllabic response. "Cool", "k", "I see", "ok" are just a few out of the countless dismissive words that you could employ in your next conversation.
2. Keep a wandering gaze
Look around, just keep looking around, it's just the surest way of showing disinterest. Never keep an eye contact with the person, because only then will they feel the pressing need to keep quiet.
3. Start packing
The last time I met a 'friend' at a new product launch, I was definitely not in the mood for the usual gists, I just needed to have a nice time and enjoy myself with total strangers, you know meet new people. But she wasn't having it. She was sitting next to me for only five minutes but it felt like eternity. I started packing my stuffs into my hold all, and leaned towards her in the most endearing way I could muster and said "darling, I'll love to chat some more, but I really have to catch up with a few people. See you around" .
4. Offer a handshake and leave
Stretch out your hand coyly and say "It was nice running into you, we must do this sometime soon". Make it sweet and firm.
5. Smile, offer an apology and leave
The greatest asset you could ever imagine having is a very sweet and innocent smile. It soothes even a fire burn and definitely never lets people in on what what you're thinking, it'll always be a facade for you. Put it to good use, and say, "I am sorry but I have some things to get done today, but it was nice seeing you again, as always".
Remember the key to acing this is to remain sweet, polite and very firm. And if you recognize any of these being used on you, take the cue immediately.
