Musing; Pray for France . . .
The world woke to the unpleasant news of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Saturday, 14th November. Over 160 lives cut short, several families thrown into sadness and mourning. Loved ones lost, never to be seen again on this side of heaven.
The world over, senseless, avoidable killings are taking place daily. Extremists are walking through our streets, our nations, states, cities and villages, leaving a trail of thick blood.
At the heart of terrorism is the desire to drive fear into people. Fear of a very small percentage of the total population who have decided to subject every other person to their ideologies, who want to force their minority preference on the majority. The brutality of their operations is simply to achieve this purpose. Strip them of their weapons, and they're as harmless as the man next door.
Tackling this menace, therefore, in my opinion, requires disarming them. That's a tall order to ask of any government, I know. But, we can get there. There's hardly any part of the world that has not had a taste of this bitter pill. So, let world leaders come together, for once, with the purpose of tackling this global menace. Leave behind differences, leave behind excuses, let's unite against the evil in our midst.
The real evil ones are the channel of arming these groups. Those selling, transporting, taking manufacturing requests from them, donating, whatever role they're playing. These are our main enemies. These are the ones we need to unmask. They're walking amidst us in broad daylight. We know them, but do not see their masks.
Pain, tears, hurt, is spreading the world over. We should not allow this weaken us. We should not fall for the tactic of fear. We should stand strong together, band in unity to present a united force against this cancer eating into our world. We should grieve over our loved ones lost, but wipe our tears and determine that we won't lose another.
To families in Nigeria is the states of Plateau, Yobe, Taraba, Maiduguri and other places where the reality of terrorism resides daily, may The Balm of Gilead soothe your pains. May your children know a better world than the one you're currently experiencing.
We have not lost till we give up. The only way is forward. We will not fold our hands and watch evil triumph over good. No, we will not be defeated.
