Day Of The Girl Child
The world over, the girl child is celebrated. In Nigeria, the bill against female circumcision has just been passed into law! That's cheering news. We need more bills against child rapists, child marriages, and other issues confronting the girl child. They need to be protected. They need to be nurtured and guided to bloom into the amazing women they have the capability of becoming.
To my sweet baby girls, I can't get to you all today, but I'm saying a prayer for you - that your dreams will come to fruition, your potentials will be maximized, your voices will be heard and you will grow up to be strong, beautiful and wave making women, who will bring about key changes in every industry and sector.
Today is as good as any to remember the girls that were taken from their school over 500 days ago by Boko Haram terrorists in Chibok, Nigeria. These are daughters, sisters, cousins, nieces. They are loved by their families but at the moment, their fate is unknown.
All hands should cooperatively work at finding closure on this case. Being a child, a girl child, should not be an offence.
It's also a good time to praise the efforts of an amazing girl - Malala Yousafzai. This lovely young woman is giving a voice to the girl child all over the world. Ride on Malala! You're making a huge difference.
Do you have a young girl around you? give them a hug today. Look after them. Help them grow to the fullest of their potentials and watch them make a huge impact on the society and the world at large.
